Elk are, by all accounts, less aggressive when not rutting. But one would have to know the signs of being in rut to make that assessment wisely... so yeah.

I was in Jasper a few years ago, rented a bike, did some trail riding, and saw some elk among other things. And I gotta tell ya, I was considering how my maximum velocity and endurance matched up to an elk’s. And I didn’t feel good about my numbers.

Depends on the steel body.  Modern steel bodies what are designed to help reduce weight, it would have gone through just the same.  Though it probably would have been cheaper to fix.
